Elementor vs block editor consultation

Elementor vs the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg): Which Should You Use?

Use the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) if you mostly publish content and want the lightest possible setup with no extra licences. Use Elementor if you need custom layouts, landing pages, theme templates, forms and popups that non-developers can edit visually. Many sites combine them: Elementor for marketing pages, the block editor for blog posts. Updated October 2026. Get a free consultation.

Disclosure: We’re an Elementor-only agency. Even so, we tell clients when the block editor is enough.

When the Block Editor Is the Better Choice

  • Blogs, news and content sites where pages are mostly text and images
  • Teams with a developer who can build custom blocks and patterns
  • Projects where keeping plugins and licences to a minimum matters most
  • Very simple brochure sites using a good block theme

When Elementor Is the Better Choice

  • Marketing sites and landing pages that change often and need designer-level layouts
  • Teams where marketers, not developers, edit pages
  • Sites built on a premium theme with Elementor templates, such as WoodMart or Porto
  • Projects that need forms, popups, dynamic templates and WooCommerce page building without stitching together many plugins
  • Converting a Figma design pixel-perfectly. See our Figma to Elementor service.

Can You Use Both?

Yes, and it’s common. Elementor runs on pages where you enable it, while the block editor stays available for posts. A typical setup uses Elementor Theme Builder for the header, footer and single-post template, and the block editor for writing the article body.

Performance: Is Gutenberg Really Faster?

A minimal block theme usually ships less code than a page builder. But a well-built Elementor site can pass Core Web Vitals, while a block site packed with block plugins can be slow. What matters most is discipline: few add-ons, optimized images, caching and good hosting. See our Elementor speed optimization service.

Moving Between Them

Content written in the block editor can be moved into Elementor pages, and Elementor layouts can be rebuilt as blocks, but layouts don’t convert automatically either way. If you’re moving to Elementor, our migration service rebuilds pages cleanly and protects your SEO.

Is Gutenberg replacing Elementor?

No. The block editor is WordPress's default editor and keeps improving, but Elementor remains one of the most widely used page builders, with active development. Elementor 4 shipped a new Atomic Editor in 2026. They serve overlapping but different needs.

A default Elementor page loads more code than a minimal block theme. With a careful build, optimized assets, caching and good hosting, Elementor sites can still pass Core Web Vitals.

Not always. If you mostly publish articles and simple pages, the block editor may be enough. If non-developers need to build custom layouts, landing pages, forms or popups, Elementor saves a lot of time.

Yes. You can build some pages with Elementor and write posts with the block editor. Elementor Pro's Theme Builder can style the templates around block-editor content.

Neither builder ranks a site on its own. SEO depends on content, structure, speed and links. Both work with Yoast SEO and Rank Math, and both can produce clean heading structures and fast pages when built properly.
